Fire caused an evacuation of a Grand Forks apartment building with many residents still left without a place to go. The blaze started about 10:30 Wednesday morning at the Columbia Square Apartments.

Firefighters are still on scene investigating and most likely will remain throughout the night. There were no injuries but residents we spoke with say it's been a horrific first day of spring for them.

The fire started this morning on the third floor of one of the apartment buildings. Residents of the 12 units in that building still don't know when they will be allowed back in. One displaced resident was home at the start of the fire and describes the scene for us as her neighbor warned them to get out.

Miranda Olson, displaced tenant: "She came running out of the apartment screaming fire, so we ran out and my boyfriend tried to grab the fire extinguisher and put the fire out but it was already huge."

Olson was barefoot, trying to keep warm in her car. She gave her boots to her boyfriend, who ran out of the building without shoes. For now, firefighters say the Red Cross and Salvation Army will help find the residents a place to go.
