Thomas DiLorenzo of the University of Alabama at Birmingham has been chosen to be UND’s next provost and vice president for academic affairs, UND President Robert Kelley announced Thursday.
DiLorenzo, who is currently the associate vice president for innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship at the University of Alabama, will replace Paul Lebel on May 1.
“The president has put together an outstanding leadership team and I am eager to partner with these individuals to forward the work on Exceptional UND,” DiLorenzo said in a press release.
DiLorenzo previously served as the founding dean of the University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences. He also created the Honors College, the University Advising Center and several other services as dean. DiLorenzo was also dean at the University of Delaware.
UND’s Lebel announced last year that he would step down from the position. He will assume a full-time faculty position in UND’s School of Law, where he served as dean prior to being provost.
Kelley, who appointed DiLorenzo, said the new provost is an innovative leader with an outstanding background in higher education.
“He will do an excellent job of leading UND’s academic division,” Kelley said.
