North Dakota's longest-serving peace officer is retiring. The Grand Forks Police Department held a special ceremony to celebrate the service of Captain Kerwin Kjelstrom who joined the force in 1968.

That 44 years of service also makes Kjelstrom Grand Forks's longest serving police officer. It was standing room only for today's party where fellow law enforcement gathered to give the captain their best wishes.

Kjelstrom: "It was time for me to leave, when you start telling jokes and no one gets them, they don't relate to what you talking about, It's time to go."

Kjelstrom plans to spend more time with his family and at the lake.
