29-year old Moorhead native Mark Ladwig skated from relative obscurity into the world spotlight earlier this week. While he and his partner Amanda Evora didn't finish in medal contention in pairs figure skating, they did succeed in their goal of finishing ahead of half the field.
Fresh off his very respectable tenth place finish in pairs figure skating Mark Ladwig is now set to soak in the entire olympic experience.
Mark Ladwig: Its one of those things you get to share our experiences and my travels. I haven't been fortune enough to go to college yet so this is kinda a life degree for me. And yes all of this has come around and made it an exciting event. And I will be able to share it with my child. Tenth place is a dream, our goal was top half. But placement is not under our control, we have to leave that up to the judges. We came hear with the goal of performance. Short program we hit it out of the park that was a homerun. And for the long program I think I will let it pile up, oh well i want to do as well as yesterday. Placement I wasn't like I need to move up to places. I was like I want to skate as well as I did yesterday. Fargo-Moorhead is great I love the Red River Valley I alway got my heart there. You can take me out of the valley but I will always be there.
Ladwig plans on staying in Vancouver for the entire two weeks, and taking in the closing ceremonies.
