Special needs child care funding in danger

Funding for special needs daycare is on the chopping block in Bismarck. A House committee voted ten to three to strip all funding for special needs daycare. The bill will now return to the Senate for consideration in the form of a legislative study.

Funding for special needs daycare is on the chopping block in Bismarck. A House committee voted ten to three to strip all funding for special needs daycare. The bill will now return to the Senate for consideration in the form of a legislative study.

Those in opposition of the cuts argue that funding is currently being cut from so many other bills that by the time session ends, North Dakotans will be left with little to no childcare funding.

Kylie Oversen: "They have even higher equipment needs and staff training needs and the place that I did work at, the Little Miracles center in Grand Forks, I worked in those environments and as rewarding as that work is it's difficult."

Daycare providers worry that when funding is cut, the quality of care will be in jeopardy as well.
