The Grand Forks Air Force Base 319th security forces squadron presented the Altru Cancer Center a surprise check for $532 today, all because of a former volunteer. Senior Airman Taylor Lilley started volunteering at the cancer center after her mom, who lives in Virginia, was diagnosed with cancer.

While volunteering, she noticed that some patients have trouble paying for meals. She took the idea back to her squadron, and together they raised more than 500 dollars selling bracelets. Just this month, the Altru Foundation started providing free lunches to all patients during their treatments. Today's check marks the first new donation to the program. It will provide more than 100 meals for patients.
