The Easter weekend has turned tragic for an area family, after a

fatal plane crash.

A Moorhead native was on his way home. 48-year-old Kevin Ferris lived in Superior. He was expected to fly into the Moorhead Airport around 10:30 this morning. He planned on visiting family and friends over the weekend, in Fargo-Moorhead, but the pilot never showed.

With the dense and heavy fog, the Clay County Sheriff's Department says it's possible Ferris got turned around. Ferris was flying over Park Rapids and told his family it was foggy, but soon his text messages stopped. Authorities believe Ferris might have been looking for an alternative airport. Officials found the plane at around 5 friday evening in a field south of Hawley, only miles from the Hawley Airport. Family tells us, he'd just gotten his pilot's license a few months ago.

As of now, no one is able to confirm how the plane went down. Tonight, the FAA continues its investigation.
