BISMARCK — A North Dakota bighorn sheep hunting license sold at auction for a record $75,000.

The license was auctioned March 23 at the annual meeting in Minnesota of the Midwest Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation. The North Dakota Game and Fish Department says the high bid broke the record of $50,000 set in 2007.

North Dakota's auction license allows the winning bidder the rare chance to pursue a bighorn on a self-guided hunt. The money raised goes toward sheep management. Since 1986, more than $1 million has been raised through the program.
