Hundreds of high school and middle school students from around the state are in Grand Forks for the North Dakota State Science and Engineering Fair.
Student projects are judged by more than a hundred people from the science, math and technology fields. The students compete for cash, prizes, scholarships and a chance to advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair. Participants conducted hands-on science activities with college students and faculty and toured the UND campus.
Alena Kubatova, UND Chemistry Professor: "People get an idea what kind of science can be done. In chemistry, we all tend to think chemistry is mixing solutions, but it's a lot about analyzing blood work, lots of medical chemistry, there is chemistry about polymers. It's much broader than we tend to imagine, and this is what these students should see."
The fair is open to the public from 1:00 to 4:00 Friday afternoon.
