Hextall leads Sioux past Bulldogs

UND scores 3 power play goals in 5-2 win

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Brett Hextall scored on the power play and shorthanded Friday, leading North Dakota to a 5-2 conference win over Minnesota-Duluth.

Hextall also had an assist as the Fighting Sioux (15-11-5, 10-10-3) moved within two points of Colorado College for fifth place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The top five teams get home-ice advantage for the postseason.

Matt Frattin and Danny Kristo also had power-play goals for UND. The Sioux have scored 13 goals in the past two games. Jason Gregoire scored an empty-netter in the closing seconds.

Jordan Fulton and Jake Hendrickson scored late for the Bulldogs (18-12-1, 14-8-1).

North Dakota goalie Brad Eidsness had 31 saves for UND. Kenny Reiter had 16 saves for the Bulldogs.

Game two of the series can be seen Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on the Fighting Sioux Sports Network.
