Grand Forks students lend a hand to a world in need

145 7th graders from Valley Middle School packed the public works building in Grand Forks Friday morning to help children around the globe.

145 7th graders from Valley Middle School packed the public works building in Grand Forks Friday morning to help children around the globe.

The middle-schoolers helped kick off the Feed My Starving Children volunteer program by packaging the first of hopefully more than 400,000 meals. Earlier this year, Valley Middle School collected more than600 dollars for the project, which covers the cost of the meals the students packed during their shift. Each meal costs 22 cents to produce.

Matt Bakke, Valley Middle School Math Teacher: "We just decided as a team that would be good for our students to give back to not only here in Grand Forks but across the world."

The students will be among 2,100 hundred volunteers this weekend.
