The drawdown of Red River Valley reservoirs in preparation for the flood is nearly complete, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s St. Paul District said Friday.

Lake Ashtabula near Valley City, N.D., is down to 1,257 feet. Homme Lake near Park River, N.D., is expected to be down to 1,064 feet early next week. Lake Traverse near the Red’s headwaters is close to its drawdown goal of 974 feet. Orwell Dam near Fergus Falls, Minn., is 1.6 feet from its drawdown goal of 1,050 feet.

The corps said it is working close with the National Weather Service to incorporate drawdowns to the service’s flood forecasts.
