The North Dakota softball team is hoping to have their home opener Friday in East Grand Forks against Big Sky foe, Southern Utah.
UND, who had batting practice Thursday at Hyslop, is 10-24 on the 2013 campaign and 2-4 in conference play..
The green and white went 7-1 at home last season and coaches and players are excited to play in their own backyard.
Junior UND right fielder, Amanda Johnson said, "I'm very excited. It's nice to have the home-field advantage and not traveling is good for homework and some alone time to relax."
UND head coach, Eric Oakley added, "When you spend the first two-thirds of your season traveling, you get tired. You want to be at home, you want to sleep in your bed, you want to grocery shop, do the things that are normal living. To be able to incorporate that with going out and playing softball everyday is huge and it made a big difference last year and I expect it to do the same this year."
