The bombings in Boston have Fargo marathon officials on high alert. Race director Mark Knutson says a crisis management team prepares and plans for the Fargo Marathon each year. This team includes police, EMTs and race officials.
The biggest concern during the marathon is typically weather. Knutson says this year more precautions will be taken, including more security personnel along the race route.
Knutson: "We may lean on the general public too a little bit to say hey this is your community and you live on this street, have you seen anything that's unusual, have you seen an unusual car that keeps passing by your neighborhood, you know around marathon time."
Due to the flood predictions the race route will be changed. There are six preliminary routes being considered. Knutson says a final decision will be made once the melt begins.
