Devils Lake students are breaking out the big bus to help fight hunger in the Lake Region. The Devils Lake High School student council is going around to every school in the district organizing a mass food drive.

It's a one day drive on May 1st with a goal of filling up an entire school bus with food. The food will go to local food pantries which are experiencing severe food shortages. Student council president Beth MacDonald says this is the most ambitious project the schools have done. She says she hopes students are surprised by how much they can accomplish.

McDonald: "It's very important for everyone to see how we do it. Everyone to see what they do can make a difference, especially the younger kids because they don't always see that and don't always realize how many people suffer from hunger."

Most of the food will go to Spirit Lake Ministry Center in Tokio, with the rest going to Dakota Prairie Community Action in Devils Lake.
