The Dakota Science Center teamed up with local Boy Scout troops today for its biggest event of the year.

Super Science Day brought hundreds of youngsters to the PurPur Arena in Grand Forks to have some fun while learning.

Learning by doing is what Super Science Day is all about.

Dr. Laura Munski, Dakota Science Center: “When you do science, you're exploring and it's a lot of fun.”

From watching a balloon explode, to making some special bubbles.

D.J. Yarbro, Boy Scouts Member: “Science is fun because it teaches us what actually can happen and what is real.”

But it's not just about experiments, Boy Scout troops got to show off their skills at science day.

Nathen Peterfeso, Boy Scouts Director: “The scout show is about showcasing our individual units and we pick a theme. This year's them is scout strong. It's centered around physical fitness or outdoor activity or something of that nature.”

It's not just about having fun for a day. Some kids here say they want to be scientists when they grow up.

Yarbro: “A scientist does very hard work and people appreciate them for it. And if you're a scientist I figure not only can you help the world but people will thank you for it.”

But for now, D.J. is helping the younger kids do some pull ups.

Kayla Strayer: “Do you think you're a good motivator?”

Yarbro: “Yeah. It's good if they can actually do it, and if they believe in themselves they actually can. Anything’s possible.”

Super Science Day is part of National Environmental Education Week to promote environmental science.
