A felony theft charge against Mark Little Owl was reduced to a misdemeanor following a pre-trial conference Thursday in Grand Forks District Court.

Little Owl, who is on administrative leave from his position as director of Tribal Social Services for Spirit Lake Nation, had faced the felony charge in connection with the alleged theft of a cell phone during a domestic disturbance Aug. 21, 2012, at the Grand Forks apartment of his former wife.

His attorney and an assistant state’s attorney told Judge Sonja Clapp they had agreed to the revised charge. Little Owl also faces two other misdemeanor charges relating to the incident. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Clapp set a trial date of June 4.
