The National Weather Service has lowered the projected crest for the Red River to 42.5 feet in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks, which could mean all three bridges between the cities will remain open.

The Sorlie Bridge would close at 43.5 feet, the Kennedy Bridge at 52 feet and the Point Bridge at 40 feet, according to the city of East Grand Forks.

However, the city said Tuesday if the projection holds it will not actually have to close the Point Bridge.

The weather service's latest projection is significantly lower than projections in the last few days. On Saturday, the river was expected to reach 46 feet. On Monday, it was expected to reach 45.5 feet.
