The Lake Region is preparing in case ugly weather rears its head during this summer.
This is Severe Summer Weather Awareness week. Communities in Ramsey County are working to educate people about what to do when bad weather strikes. Towns in Ramsey County will test tornado sirens Wednesday morning between 11 and 11:30. The Ramsey County courthouse will also conduct a tornado drill. The courthouse is one of two shelters in Devils Lake where people can go during a weather emergency along with the North Dakota School for the Deaf.
Kristen Nelsen, Ramsey County Emergency Manager: "Severe weather would be including a tornado. Anybody that doesn't have a basement, if they live in a mobile home or a manufactured home, a lot of those homes don't have a crawlspace or a basement for safety so they can go to another safe location."
Emergency Manager Kristen Nelsen says anyone with questions about preparing for severe weather can contact her office in the Ramsey County courthouse.
