Grand Forks Crime Lowest in 10 years

Crime in Grand Forks is the lowest it has been in 10 years.

Grand Forks Police released their 2009 crime statistics today.

They say crime decreased by 13 percent from 2008 and is at a 10 year low.

The most serious crimes... however... like murder... rape and robberies are up 1 percent over last year.

Part two crimes like threats... fraud and drug cases decreased by 4 percent over last year.

Police say they responded to more than 39-thousand calls in 2009.

Lt.Jim Remer: "That can be anything from a medical assist to a follow up to a traffic stop to a homicide scene. So the officers here are going on a lot of calls in a day, and handling a lot of different things that are going on."

Police say some of the increase in certain crimes is because one or two people went on a crime spree... Like the recent string of robberies and others about a year ago as well.

In both of those cases... people were arrested and charged with the crimes.
