Party bus passengers thankful for driver's reflexes

Passengers on a party bus this weekend say their designated driver is a hero for avoiding a head-on collision with a drunk driver.

Passengers on a party bus this weekend say their designated driver is a hero for avoiding a head-on collision with a drunk driver.

Saturday morning just before 1:00 am a pickup driving south on state highway 1806 went into oncoming traffic, where a party bus was driving north. The driver of the party bus swerved into the left lane to avoid being hit head-on. They were still hit on the side of the bus and ten of 17 people celebrating a birthday party were sent to the hospital with various injuries. Authorities say the accident would have been much worse if the bus driver had not done what he did.

Jeremy Ficek, Bismarck: "It was good to see a familiar face and he took care of us the last time, obviously this time he did the same, it was an unfortunate event, but he handled it the best he could have and I'm thankful he was our driver again."

Gregory Steyskal, New York: "We are so fortunate he was our driver, he's a hero."

Everyone from the birthday party was treated and released from the hospital Saturday morning. The pickup driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and causing bodily injury, along with several other charges.
