A Grand Forks youth has been recognized for her volunteerism in Washington, D.C.
Central High School student Nicolette Cariveau was recognized at the nation's capitol on May 5th. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Nicolette began collecting soda can tops to help fund living expenses for families living in Ronald McDonald houses. Over a span of five years, Nicolette collected 3,500 pounds of pop tops.
Bismark student, Lyndsey Scheurer was also recognized for her volunteer efforts. The two girls along with 100 other volunteers from across the country received one thousand dollar awards. Nicolette also said she plans on putting the one thousand dollars she received toward her college fund.
