Dale Clinton White Jr., Red Lake, Minn., was charged this week in federal court in Minneapolis with assaulting a Redby, Minn., man with a machete March 22 in a Redby residence.

According to investigators’ affidavits, officers responded to a call from the home about 4 p.m. March 22 and found the man unconscious in bed, with “several fractures, multiple lacerations, soft-tissue damage and hemorrhagic shock,” from a machete attack. Witnesses told police others had fled the scene before police arrived, naming White as one of them. Police saw White fleeing a neighbor’s house, where he allegedly left a machete.

White, 19, was indicted Monday in federal court with the charges, which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if he’s convicted. The FBI and the Red Lake Tribal Police Department investigated the incident. Because it happened on the Red Lake Indian Reservation, the U.S. attorney’s office in the Twin Cities is prosecuting White.
