Area 4th graders honor older Americans

Area fourth graders made some older Americans blush or even shed a tear of joy at the 23rd annual "My Favorite Older American" essay contest.

Area fourth graders made some older Americans blush or even shed a tear of joy at the 23rd annual "My Favorite Older American" essay contest.

4th Graders from Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and the Air Force Base read their winning essays this afternoon at the senior center. WDAZ Anchor Rob Hudson emceed the event. Many of the older americans who were the subject of the essays were present to hear the authors read their work to the audience.

Karen Hillman, Essay Coordinator: "We think it's important to them to be able to write down their feeling for their favorite older american and then share that."

The East Grand Forks mayor Lynn Staus, and Grand Forks mayor Mike Brown also attended the event.
