The northern red river valley celebrated its third annual Police week memorial service today. State, local, federal and Canadian law enforcement all participated in today's ceremony, as did the Grand Forks Air Force Base.

More than 100 people showed up to the Grand Forks County Courthouse lawn. They honored law enforcement who have fallen in the line of duty in the Red River Valley and the families affected. This week is designated as Police Week.

John Packett, Grand Forks Police Chief: "It's the generations of americans that were not born because of the sacrifices our military made many, many years ago. It's the same analogy for law enforcement."

President John F. Kennedy declared May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day back in 1962.
