Frattin's OT goal lifts UND past CCSioux claim sole possession of fifth place
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Matt Frattin's goal at 2:09 of overtime gave North Dakota a 3-2 victory over Colorado College Friday night.
The win puts UND alone in fifth place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, two points ahead of Colorado College with three games left in the regular season.
The top five teams at the end of the regular season open the WCHA playoffs on home ice.
Brad Malone and Ben Blood assisted on the overtime goal.
Malone's goal at 18:18 of the third period tied the game at 2-2 and forced the overtime.
North Dakota took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a power play goal by Danny Kristo.
The Tigers' Nate Prosser scored goals in the second and third periods to give Colorado College a 2-1 lead.
Sioux goalie Brad Eidsness finished with 26 saves, while the Tigers' Joe Howe had 39.
UND's Evan Trupp ended with two assists.
The teams finish the two-game series Saturday in Colorado Springs.
