The Grand Forks Air Force Base officially has a new leader. The Assumption of Command ceremony for 43-year-old Colonel Paul Bauman took place this morning.

The previous commander, Colonel Timothy Bush, was dismissed in March for not meeting physical fitness standards. Major General William Bender introduced Bauman to a crowd filled with hundreds of airmen and civilian guests. Bauman most recently served as Vice Commander in Alaska. He's also worked at the Pentagon and as a professor at the Air Force Academy. Bauman says he plans to focus on professionalism, proficiency and passion for the mission.

Bauman: "It's a tremendous opportunity to be involved in the mission here at Grand Forks. There's a lot of missions that go on here, a lot of airmen doing diverse duties and I look forward to joining that team and helping them move forward."

Bauman is the 38th commander of the Grand Forks Air Force Base since 1962.
