The recent wet weather was on the agenda today as Senator Heidi Heitkamp met with officials from the Lake Region. Local officials outlined a laundry list of problems caused by the water which Senator Heitkamp says she'll take to Washington.

Local leaders told the senator that weather this spring has made flood issues nearly as bad as they were at their worst two years ago. Officials outlines the problems they face from the flood. They told Heitkamp about housing shortages in Devils Lake and on the Spirit Lake Nation. Both roads and farmland have been swallowed up throughout the region. Local officials say fixing these issues will require a lot of money -- more than they have at the moment. Heitkamp says she'll use this information to keep the pressure on Congress to remember the struggles Lake Region residents face.

Heitkamp: "We're very concerned about making sure we have the critical infrastructure in place, making sure we have all of the knowledge that we need in Washington DC to adequately represent this region."

Local officials did praise the federal government for what they've done to this point during the 20 year flood fight. But they told Heitkamp to be prepared, because flood conditions could become worse than ever within the next couple years.
