When Ty Kennedy is driving, you better buckle up. The Grand Forks Central Senior is notorious for his velocity on the links.
Ty Kennedy, Grand Forks Central senior, "I've always been able to hit the ball pretty far and I don't know what it is. I play hockey too so it might be having a slap shot."
No slap shots here. Just backspin and birdies.
Kennedy, "My parents would drop me off at Lincoln Park Golf Course and I would just, all day, every day, play golf and it's kind of where I got to love the game."
That love of the game made him EDC golf champion last week and his approach going into the state tournament is a simple one.
Dan Corey, "Is that your goal is to win the state title?" Kennedy, "Yes. That's my goal, it's been my goal since the beginning of the year."
Sue Ann Lund, Grand Forks Central golf coach, "He's a positive leader and a role model, on and off the golf course. He's been very influential in our golf program. He's played varsity golf for us for six years."
That includes being Central High’s number one golfer…his seventh grade year. And although it’s been a storied career for Kennedy, something is missing. A state championship.
Kennedy, "If I do what I'm capable of, I feel like I've got a great chance to win it, just as good as everybody else."
