Grand Forks Police say there has been a slight increase in meth arrests, this after the use of meth had seemingly peaked in the region.
One of the latest arrests in the area came last week when 10 ounces of crystal meth was found during a traffic stop on I-29. Those 10 ounces are estimated to have a 56,000 dollar street value. Police say it has been years since that large of meth bust has been made, and it may be an indication the use of meth is having a bit of a comeback. Local drug councelors agree but doubt it will return to the level of use it had just ten years ago when half of the additction calls dealt with meth. Today Councilor Deb Davis from Northeast Human Services says just one of ten calls are asking for help for meth addition.
Davis: "It just maybe slowly coming back. And it not like we have had no meth use. It just hasn't been as prevalent."
Grand Forks Police say the availability of meth has dropped partly due to recent laws keeping cold medication with pseudoephedrine behind the pharmacy counter and in limited quantities. That's one of the ingredients used in making meth.
