Mount Rushmore Shut Down Monday

Snow forces closure of national memorial.

MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, S.D. (AP) — An early fall snowstorm Monday led to the closure of Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota's Black Hills.

Gerard Baker, Mount Rushmore superintendent, says a loss of electricity from the bad weather caused the closing. He says the information center, visitor center and the administration support area would remain closed on Monday.

Baker says weather permitting, Mount Rushmore will be open and operating under normal conditions on Tuesday.

Several inches of snow fell in the Black Hills on Monday.
