A former University of North Dakota students died overnight after a car accident in Grand Forks. It happened at the intersection of 20th Street and 9th Avenue South.
The victim is 22-year-old Alexander Gabrysh of Mandan, North Dakota. Officials say Gabrysh was travelling westbound on 9th Avenue and it was when he crossed the intersection that his vehicle was struck.
The other vehicle was driven by 21-year-old Ethan Plemel. Grand Forks police and fire department arrived on the scene and the two men were rushed to Altru Hospital. Plemel was treated and released, however Gabrysh did not survive his injuries. An autopsy report has been completed but has not been released. Authorities say it may not be released for a few more weeks.
Patti Westrem, Victim's coworker: "It's just unreal, I mean it was a shock to me, my mouth was wide open, my tears were rolling, it's just unbelievable. When you see such a good friend, you know, lose a life like that."
It hasn't been confirmed yet whether or not speed or any other factors were involved but police are still investigating.
