It's out with the old, in with the new for UND. Prep work has begun to demolish the former Ralph Englestad Arena. Once the building is torn down by the end of summer, a 20 million dollar indoor practice facility will take its place.

We spoke with community members who say the new high performance center is needed and they're glad to have the space put to use again. While they're sad to see the old Ralph go, they say they'll always have memories.

Nicole Tessin: "UND is changing so much. It's not the Fighting Sioux. I mean everything is changing so it's kind of sad to see that actually go away."

Terry Dunphy: "It was the Taj Mahal of hockey arenas at that time. Now 40 plus years later we're in an even more beautiful arena."

Jim Lies: "It's going to be an improvement. The old Ralph was quite a building in its day, but with the new Ralph you don't need two of them."

Berger Enterprises based in Emerado is in charge of the 590 thousand dollar demolition project.
