North Dakota leaders are encouraging people to use the Call Before You Dig program, as fines are increasing. Fines are going up from 5,000 dollars to 25,000 dollars.

Leaders say calling can save lives. Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk says the reason for the increase is not to target residents but to deter companies from paying attention to saving time and instead encourage them to pay attention to safety. The public service commission encourages everyone to call 811 before breaking ground.
