Police are still investigating the death of an infant who was left in the car for several hours Tuesday. The victim, 5-month-old Christiana Sandstrom died in a car seat in a hot van.
The incident happened at 1103 19th Street South Tuesday night. They found the father, 24-year-old Andrew Sandstrom holding the child. Emergency crews tried to revive the baby but were unsuccessful. The father was taking care of 5 other children under the age of 7 at the time.
Those children were taken into custody for several reasons. Police say the children and parents needed to be separated during the investigation, and to provide emotional support.
Lt. Tory Jacobson, Moorhead Police: "It's very tragic, you know, clearly even though they are young, they realized what was happening with the medical emergency there for their little sister, and I cant even explain how tragic it would be to see what's taking place there, and the need for the investigator to talk with the parents, you know we contact social services and the children were removed."
It's unsure as to how long the 5 children will be in custody. Police are treating the case as an accidental death. Possible charges will not be filed until after the investigation is complete.
