A Grand Forks family is welcoming a unique pet to the household. So unique in fact, they're the only ones to have a pet like this in the state. The Schake family now has a muntjac deer after adopting her just one week ago.

Lilly the deer is only three weeks old and she's so small that when standing, her head could rest on a can of pop. Lilly gets fed every five hours and would grow to around 17 inches. That's about the size of a large cat. Adopting Lilly was no easy task. Jeff was on a waiting list for six months and had to obtain permits and a license to bring the deer into the home. For owner Jeff and his wife Samantha, Lilly is just one of many animals in the family.

Jeff: "Well we were in the backyard and we were watching the chickens and the rabbits and the ducks and the dogs and I said I think we need a little deer running around here."

The only time Lilly will let Jeff and Samantha hold her is when she's feeding. She'll be on a bottle feeder for six to eight more weeks.
