Devils Lake kicks off 37th annual walleye tournament

Nearly 300 anglers are on Devils Lake this weekend, hoping to win big prizes for a big catch. The Devils Lake Chamber's 37th annual Walleye tournament kicked off this morning.

Nearly 300 anglers are on Devils Lake this weekend, hoping to win big prizes for a big catch. The Devils Lake Chamber's 37th annual Walleye tournament kicked off this morning.

Nearly 150 two-person teams hit the lake, looking to snag the five thousand dollar grand prize for biggest catch. Chamber director Suzie Kenner says the tournament draws anglers from all over the country, as far away as Alaska. She says it's a great way to showcase Devils Lake as a world-class fishing destination.

Kenner: "It's one of those great events where the entry fee isn't too large to get into. It's a well-established tournament."

The tournament will pick up again Saturday at seven am.The winners will be announced after all the fish are weighed. Anglers will have until 3:00 pm to grab the biggest fish they can.
