Veterans in Devils Lake often have to travel to Fargo to get personal information about veterans benefits available to them, but this Wednesday, answers to those questions will come to Devils Lake. The local Disabled American Veterans chapter has invited the national service officer from the Fargo VA office to help get local vets the benefits they deserve.

John Baxley with the VA will spend all day tomorrow in Devils Lake, talking to vets about how the VA can help them. Local Disabled American Veterans Commander Pete Padilla says he expects veterans to come from as far away as Belcourt and Rugby for the opportunity to get answers about VA benefits. Veterans say applying for benefits can be overwhelming. That's where the VA rep comes in. He'll be able to tell veterans what benefits they and their families are eligible for and help them apply.

Padilla: "[There will be a] complete mobile office. He can do applications. He can research cases that need submitting. He can answer questions. Anything that can be done."

The Service Officer will be available from 8 am unil 4 pm Wednesday outside the holiday mall in Devils Lake. There's no cost and all veterans and family members are encouraged to come out.
