One day after a Minnesota woman's attorney went public with negligence allegations against the Catholic Diocese of Crookston, the Diocese is still not responding. On Monday the diocese said it would have a statement Tuesday responding to a lawsuit alleging that church leaders knew about the late Reverend James Porter's past of abuse.

Porter was a priest at St. Phillips in Bemidji between 1969 and 1970 when he allegedly sexually abused the woman who is known as Jane Doe 4 in the case. She was in the fourth grade at the time. Although the diocese is not commenting today, members of the crookston community are hoping that church leaders will respond soon and be transparent with the case.

We do know that this is not the first case to come against the diocese and the late Reverend Porter. He was removed from the priesthood in 1974 and in 1992 was convicted of sexually abusing 28 children in Massachusetts. Mosignor Baumgartner and Attorney Charles Stock would not give a date on when an expected response would be given.
