Staff members of U.S Senator Al Franken visited East Grand Forks today to gain input from Veterans on the freeing up of back-logged benefits.

Staff members of U.S Senator Al Franken visited East Grand Forks today to gain input from Veterans on the freeing up of back-logged benefits.

According to Franken's office hundreds of thousands of returning veterans wait months while their claims are processed. Franken, who recently introduced legislation with Rep. Tim Walz, said the meeting is part of his office's effort to get input from Minnesotans on the problem and on his legislation. Staff members say more than 600,000 veterans benefits claims are backed up, forcing veterans to wait an average of 300 days for their claims to be processed. About 20 similar meetings have been held across the state.
