One of the busiest roads in Devils Lake is closed for the second time in as many weeks, but the city engineer says the inconvenience will be worth it when drivers will get to enjoy a new, smoother ride.

5th Avenue, under the railroad pass, is blocked off to drivers yet again. Crews replaced sewer pipes under the road last week. Now they're covering up the hole they made with asphalt. It's the second step in a three step process that should leave the previously bumpy road much more pleasant.

Mike Grafsgaard, City Engineer: "When we have that done, that'll improve the ride quality underneath the underpass. I understand right now we've closed it a couple times, we've repaired what's underneath, but we haven't done a lot to repair the surface. That'll be forthcoming."

The road is expected to re-open later this evening. Drivers will still have a bumpy ride until the final overlay is put on in a couple weeks.
