It's independence day and plenty of people from the Greater Grand Forks area are celebrating the holiday. There are lots of activities going on at the Sertoma Fun 4th and Firework event.

There were already hundreds of people in Town Square this afternoon, and 25 to 35,000 people are expected to make it out before the event is done. This is the 53rd year for the Sertoma Fun 4th and Firework event. Plenty of people were cooling off with cold treats and staying busy with activities like face painting. Raffle tickets are going for 10 dollars each for a chance to win a 2013 Nissan Versa, where all proceeds go to charity. Mason Hollifield is celebrating his 31st year with the Sertoma Club and today is also his birthday. He said he hopes to see even more people come out this evening.

Hollifield: "Well it makes you feel good because you're providing a service so that people have something to do on the fourth. Everybody doesn't have a lake cabin regardless of what some people think so I guess it's an opportunity to give back to the community a little."

Billy D and the Crystals will take the stage at 8 PM. Winners of the silent auction, the car and other prizes will be announced at 9. Those still celebrating, don't worry, the beer gardens are open until midnight. And the thing everyone is waiting for, the fireworks show will start at 10:30.
