Authorities investigating the cause of a Moorhead fire early Monday morning say it's suspicious, possibly arson.
The fire broke out at a former bar. Crews were on scene at Coach's for more than five hours. All off-duty firefighters were called in along with a crew from Fargo. The building is still standing, with a lot of the damage being on the inside. Moorhead fire crews say their biggest fear with this fire was the safety of their own men. The sprinkler system was out of order. Crews say as long as the building isn't being occupied, it doesn't have to be up to code.
Lt tory Jacobson, Moorhead Police: "The building itself is what we call a bow-string truss. It's a pretty unstable form of construction when there is fire under it. It's kind of held together by itself so if part of it goes the roof tends to collapse. Right away we knew there was a lot of fire inside so we kind of went into a defensive mode right away."
The building is set to be demolished.
