A North Dakota judge has awarded almost ten million dollars to the family of a Fargo dentist killed in a murder for hire scheme in 2009.

A North Dakota judge has awarded almost ten million dollars to the family of a Fargo dentist killed in a murder for hire scheme in 2009.

The brother of Phillip Gattuso filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Gene Kirkpatrick, who's serving life in prison for arranging the death of Phillip, his son-in-law.

The hit man, Michael Nakvinda, is also serving life in prison. The ruling calls for Kirkpatrick to pay more than $4.4 million for economic damages, $5 million for non-economic damages, and $250,000 for other damages. Judge Lisa Fair-McEvers says since Kirkpatrick is serving his prison sentence in South Dakota, it's unlikely he'll be able to pay the non-economic damages.
