The 4th Street Eatery in the Grand Forks County Office building will shut its doors October 31st. The lunch spot is staffed by people from the non-profit organization Prairie Harvest Mental Health. They say the eatery was losing too much money.

The 4th Street Eatery is one of a few places in Grand Forks that provides job training and vocational skills to people with mental illness. We talked with several customers at the Eatery today, many of them were surprised to hear it will close. That decision was made by Prairie Harvest, which told the Grand Forks County Commission the eatery had considerable financial losses. The lunch spot opened in October 2006, and provides patrons with a unique view of the Red River.

Regular costumers say the food is great and the employees are welcoming. The eatery has about ten employees. The county commission's building committee is likely to seek another tenant for the space.
