Sioux claim 6th consecutive WCHA winZajac leads UND to 5-1 win over Michigan Tech
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - Darcy Zajac had two goals and an assist to lead North Dakota to a 5-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association victory Friday over Michigan Tech.
Zajac scored in the second and third periods and assisted on Jason Gregoire's third-period goal for the Sioux (19-11-5, 14-10-3). They outshot the Huskies 48-14 in their sixth straight win. UND had a 38-6 shots-on-goal advantage in the last two periods.
Michigan Tech's Malcolm Gwilliam scored the only goal of the first period at 17:02. But the Huskies struggled offensively from that point, finishing 0-for-6 on the power play. North Dakota roared back in the second period.
Danny Kristo, Zajac and Ben Blood gave UND a 3-1 lead after two periods.
Brad Eidsness made just 13 saves for the Sioux. Kevin Genoe had 43 saves for the Huskies (5-27-1, 4-23-0).
