Former UND and Nebraska-Omaha football coach Pat Behrns was arrested Tuesday in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on suspicion of solicitation of prostitution, according to media reports.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, a Council Bluffs police department lieutenant said Wednesday that Behrns and nine others, including four Omaha women, were arrested as part of a periodic prostitution sting operation in which initial contacts are made over Internet websites.
Authorities said they wouldn’t release additional specifics about the arrests or the sting because the operation is recurring, the World-Herald reported.
A Pottawattamie County jailer said Behrns, who listed his residence as Blair, Neb., posted 10 percent of $2,000 bail Tuesday night and was released. The jailer said the ex-coach’s first appearance in court was set for July 31, according to the World-Herald.
Behrns was UND head coach from 1980 to 1985. He was head coach at Omaha from 1994 until the football program was dropped in 2011.
Behrns is 63.
A message left Wednesday by The Associated Press at a phone listing for Patrick Behrns was not immediately returned.
