16-year-old shot on Spirit Lake Nation

A 16-year-old male was was shot on the Spirit Lake Nation Thursday, according to the FBI. The teen was transported to Grand Forks for medical treatment, but no condition report was available.

A 16-year-old male was was shot on the Spirit Lake Nation Thursday, according to the FBI.

Kyle Loven, a spokesman for the FBI in Minneapolis, said the teen was airlifted Thursday to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, where a nursing supervisor said today that she could not issue a condition report or provide other information without a name.

Loven said five people were detained following the incident and are in tribal police custody, including a man identified as Nick Jack, whom Loven described as "a person of interest."

Marty Foote, acting Bureau of Indian Affairs Police chief at Fort Totten, N.D., said the incident occurred about 4:30 a.m. Thursday in the St. Michael housing area.

The FBI continues to investigate in cooperation with the BIA and tribal police.
