A special memorial service was held today in Devils Lake for James Halvorson. He was killed in the 9-11 attack on the World Trade Center. James is a 1963 Devils Lake High School graduate.

Family members presented a plaque in Halvorson's honor to Devils Lake Superintendent Scott Privatsky in a ceremony at Central Middle School, which was the high school when he graduated.

After high school, Jim attended college in North Dakota for a couple of years before transferring to the University of Montana. He moved to New York, where he climbed the corporate ladder at Marsh and McLennan. His office was on the 99th floor of the second tower. Jim's widow, Maureen, and son, Doug, spoke at today's ceremony.

Maureen Halvorson, 9/11 Widow: "We were married 32 years when 9/11 came. Just like to say that coming back here. Having this memorial here at the high school really is very special for me and my son."

Halvorson was a drummer of note in the Devils Lake Marching Band. His family is establishing a scholarship program to benefit the Devils Lake Public School music program.
