Devils Lake flood outlook optimistic but fight isn't over yet

State and military officials tell Devils Lake city leaders that the flood fight is going well, but it's not over yet. The Devils Lake Executive Committee gathered Wednesday. The meeting included Governor Jack Dalrymple, and generals with both the North Dakota National Guard and Army Corps of Engineers. They discussed flooding issues with local leaders, everything from rebuilt roads to mental health issues caused by battling rising waters. Devils Lake mayor Dick Johnson says all sides are pleased with the progress so far, but lake levels remain high, around 1,453 feet. Johnson says the governor told locals that there's still a lot of work to do to help bring relief to the Lake Region and that even after the third highest run-off on record this year, lake levels should be close to last year's levels once the lake freezes this winter.
